I recommend running a 5w40 weight and removing your plastic engine cover to deal with the temps. Reply.
E60 530d 2005 model . white smoke coming from exhaust ? everything else normal - power, coolent level etc. while checking oil I took out oil dip stick [by mistake while engine running] and oil shot up under pressure? is this normal ?? white smoke /steam continues to come out of exhaust for up to 13 minuites after engin is turned off ,even after a short drive, has a sweet sort of smell ?.

This is all gasoline related though so not sure how the diesel motor cooling system relates. Diesel engines run a fixed range thermostat, not the map thermostat like the gasoline engines. 88C is the opening temperature for the diesel thermostat. Running ~88C is right on the money, if the cooling system is efficient. Appreciate 0.
mnyarende. On my m43b19 318i, it's usually 69°C to 84°C on descending mountain roads and the latter on normal roads (terrain in my region) and 93°C to 95°C while ascending back home. I usually turn the engine off after about 10 Seconds when I park to lower a degree or 2 to remove the excess heat with the fan as the hills are really steep
