I have a 2017 701 with 22,000 miles on it. It’s been pretty much trouble free. The false neutral between 5th and 6th is easier to find then the actual neutral. Takes about a half a quart of oil between 5,000 mile oil changes. The stock front pads create pulsations if you don’t get them hot regularly.
You can replace the OEM filter with a Napa Gold 3011 fuel filter. Inspect all of the lines for folds and kinks. Since everything is just sort of stuffed up into the tank, the lines tend to kink, and you can have gas flow problems. I braced a kink with auto fuel line, 3/8" ID. This also makes 3rd gear clutch wheelies You have to do a service on the 690 Enduro R every 10000 km (6200 miles), at which point you change the oil and filter, clean the oil screens, change the air filter and fuel screen, and check the valve clearances.
